Ong Chao Choon has over 21 years of professional experience with Pricewater-houseCoopers (“PwC”) and its legacy firms, and has worked in both the Sydney and Singapore firms. He spent his first 16 years in the Assurance division, and the rest in Transactions Advisory. He has been a partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers (“PwC Singapore”) since 1 July 1998. Chao Choon’s past audit clients included large local-listed companies like Singapore Telecommunications Ltd, STATS ChipPAC Ltd, Natsteel Ltd, Raffles Holdings Ltd and DBS Ltd; and Singapore operations of multi-national corporations like J.P.Morgan and Barclays plc. From 1997, while still in the Assurance division, Chao Choon started advising his major audit clients in their Merger and Acquisition (“M&A”) transactions.
In 2003, Chao Choon transferred to Transactions to lead that department and to specialise full time on M&A. Transactions department of PwC Singapore presently has over 90 partners and staff specialising in M&A and Capital Markets transactions, providing services ranging from due diligence and strategy advisory to accounting and valuation advisory. On 1 July 2007, Chao Choon was appointed PwC’s Transactions Leader for Asia Pacific. In that capacity, Chao Choon provides strategic and operational leadership to the Transactions practices of PwC firms in Asia Pacific, comprising Australia, China/Hong Kong, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and ASEAN countries. He is also responsible for the publication of PwC’s bi-annual Asia Pacific M&A Bulletin, in which he writes the keynote article for each issue giving an overview of M&A activities, trends and outlook for Asia Pacific.
