Masaru Shibata |
Masaru Shibata is a Managing Director and Head of Mergers & Acquisitions for Japan. Masaru joined JPMorgan in November 2008 and has been in investment banking business for more than 20 years.
Masaru began his career at Goldman Sachs as an M&A banker in 1989 and was promoted to Managing Director in Investment Banking Division in 2001. During the 12 years, he was a core member of the M&A group in Tokyo and New York and was involved in a number of major M&A transactions, including a series of strategic transactions in the life and non-life insurance sectors and consumer and commercial finance companies during 1997 and 2004.
In November, 2004 Masaru joined Lehman Brothers as Head of Mergers & Acquisitions and took a lead in building the M&A franchise in Japan, being involved in number of transactions across the different sectors including telecom, media, technology, retail, consumer products, general industry and financial institutions. He was also responsible for Corporate Coverage and was a member of the Japan Management Committee.
Since Masaru joined JPMorgan in 2008, he has helped JPMorgan being recognized as one of the top M&A houses in Japan, being awarded the Best M&A House for 2008 by both Euromoney and FinanceAsia. He also serves as a member of JPMorgan’s Business Committee for Japan.
Masaru received a BA from Keio University.
